Sanctuary

The San Francisco Bay Area is home to many ‘Sanctuary Cities’ and has historically been a refuge for many marginalized communities; however, our current political state has fractured the meaning of what sanctuary is and should be. This show considers what our response should be as artists in defining and creating sanctuary.  The exhibit features a visual collection from local artists that explore all possibilities - spatial, spiritual, and political.

The Shape of Home

What does “home” mean to you—an image, a feeling, a person, or a place? The concept of home is deeply personal, yet increasingly political. As many face housing insecurity, homelessness, displacement, and violence—especially in places like Palestine—our communities confront the struggle for belonging. THE SHAPE OF HOME explores these layers through art, reflecting on land, shelter, and human connection. Hosted at the historic Farmhouse Cooperative in South Berkeley, this exhibit invites visitors to engage with the many forms of home. The space itself, a 19th-century Victorian shared by 19 residents, embodies co-housing and collective living. All artwork will be sold to support ARTogether, an Oakland-based nonprofit that uplifts immigrants and refugees through creative expression, fostering community and healing.

Please RSVP here so we know you’re coming through. See you there!
